Learning to recognize their own name is a big task for a two year old, but it is the best place to start teaching them about the alphabet. We are starting down our journey to learning how to spell our name and recognize it when it is written. We will be doing all kinds of activity in the coming weeks to learn about our names. Here are a few things you can do at home to help your child.
Activities to do at home: Make puzzles like the ones below and help your child match up the letters to his/her name. While you are working talking about the names of the letters and their sounds. We don't expect them to remember all of the right away but the more you talk about it the fast it will happen. Look for the first letter of their name every where you go with your child. If you find the letter, stop and talk about it. "Look, there is a K, Krystal your name starts with that letter." Then you can move to reading the words and talking about the sounds. Just make it fun and soon your child will be pointing the letter out to you. Make up a song about how to spell their name. We like to use b-i-n-g-o using the letters of their name and their are many other songs you can use. Make a sign to put on their bedroom door. Every time you see it, read it to your child and talk about the letters or spell it with them. |
